Double clicking to select just the word

Before I had to reinstall my Windows XP, I used to be able to double
click and only select the word. Now when I double click, I select the
word and the parenthesis around it. In effect when I double click
inside the text "happy", the text "happy" is highlighted instead of
happy.

I liked it better when it my cursor only selected the word without the
quotes. How can I change it back?

Actually, now that I think of it, it only happen in notepad. It selects
the right text in MSword. What can i do to get it to select the text
correctly in notepad. Many thanks

I don't know the answer to that--you might want to post to a Windows
newsgroup, since Notepad is part of the operating system and not part of
Office.
