Duplicate emails in sub-folders

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

I have Entourage Web Services Edition installed, Version 13.0.0 (090609) specifically, under Mac OS X v.10.5.8 and I am having a major headache of a problem.

Entourage connects to my Office Exchange Server and I get messages in my Inbox just fine. However, when I manually or automatically (via rule) move messages from the Inbox to another folder I end up with a duplicate message being placed into that same folder. This is a major pain and is eating up storage space. I also believe it is causing my database to be corrupted at times.

It happens whether I am connecting to the Office Exchange server from behind our firewall or from outside it.

I have started with a fresh identity and it still happens.

Does anybody have any suggestions on at least troubleshooting this issue?

Please!!

Thanks,
-Randy

If you disable the rule, does nothing happen or do you possibly still
see one message still appearing?

Can you post a screenshot of your rule settings?

Even with the rule disabled or removed, the duplication still
occurs.

I don't believe a screenshot of the rule would be helpful as this
happens well after the rule would have been applied to the message.
I.e., if I move a message from the Inbox to a folder, it takes a
couple minutes and then the dupe shows up in the folder, as in on the
next synchronization of the local version of the folder with the
remote (server) version of the folder.

Oh, and it truly is a duplicate message as the Message-ID is exactly
the same for the two messages.

Do you see same duplicate messages in your OWA?
If you don't see the dups in OWA. What happen if you do an empty cache in
Entourage?

After the dupe shows up locally, i.e., after a synchronization occurs
with the server, the dupe shows up in OWA.

There appears to be something happening in the synchronization that is
causing the dupes. Any thoughts on how to narrow that down? As I
said, I have rebuilt the identity from scratch and it still happens.
I am using the external IP address of the OWA server for the Exchange
server field in Entourage, should I try the owa url instead?

Thanks,

OK, here's another data point. If I move the message using OWA to a
folder, there is no dupe created, either on the server or in
Entourage. So, it is definitely an Entourage generated issue. Back
to how to further debug and/or correct.

Still open to suggestions. May try the switch to url noted above.

Switching the server address to be the url instead of the ip address
seems to have done the trick. I'm not sure I understand why though.

Unfortunately, the success appears to have been shortlived. It doesn't appear to have worked after all. I am still encountering the same behavior even after changing the server name.

Anybody?

Thanks,

Unfortunately, the success appears to have been shortlived. It
doesn't appear to have worked after all. I am still encountering the
same behavior even after changing the server name.

Since you've eliminated rules in Entourage then I can only suspect this
is caused by the interaction between the Web Services Edition of
Entourage and your server.

One last test: do you have another machine where you can connect to your
account using Web Services Edition? If you can replicate the problem on
a completely different machine then you can assume this is a problem
with your account on the server.

You might also post your question in the microsoft.public.exchange.admin
newsgroup to see if someone there can offer some advice. Be sure to say
that you're connecting via Exchange Web Services.

Hope this helps!
