Duplicate Folders

How do I get rid of duplicate Personal Folders like a duplicate calendar,
duplicate contacts list, and duplicate personal folders in the main menu
area. I recently completed a clean install after having to wipe my hard
drive clean. So I backed up all the .pst's and then copied them to my
storage drive. Then when I reinstalled Office 2003 Pro on XP Pro I just
copied them back and now I have duplicates of everything. Help Me!!

Copying one .PST file over another is not a good idea -- it causes
duplication like you're experiencing, and it's not necessary since .PST
files can go wherever you want them to. Next time just put the old .PST
file in a location convenient for you and then tell Outlook where to find
them.

To solve the duplicate Personal Folders problem, create a new profile from
scratch. You can do so via Control Panel | Mail | Show Profiles.

I don't get what to do after I go to Control panel / Mail / Show Profiles. I
selected the ADD button and gave my new profile a new name and then I was
directed to the 'Email Accounts' window to do either a new email or new
directory. I got uncomfortable at this point. I canceled out of everything
and sent you this response. I'm usually pretty comfortable with most things
dealing with computers (no programming though). It felt like I was going to
setting up a new email account with my ISP...I'm not sure I want to do that.
Is that the only way?

Thanks

You wouldn't be setting up a new e-mail account, you'd be setting up the
same account you used with your old profile. If you're not sure of the
settings, write them down from your old profile before you create the new
one. Basically you're making a copy of your old profile except that it's
not a physical copy since you don't want to copy the ghost .PST problem.
You'll want to set up the new profile the same way your old one was set up,
and only point it to the .PST files you actually use.

Hello again...

I have another couple of problems. I finally had enough time to follow your
procedure to take care of the duplicate folder issue and now I created other
problems.

The problems are that now when I select the Contacts or Calendar tab their
information does not appear. But when I right click either of those tabs and
select 'Open In New Window' everything for that tab is there. So, I know I
haven't lost the information...it's just not opening in its main space.
Additionally, under the 'My Contacts' or 'My Calendar' there is nothing there
like there is for 'My Task' and 'My Notes'.

What do I need to do to fix this problem? I haven't checked yet to see if
the same thing has happened to the other folders like Task or Notes or the
other ones, but if it has will the procedure be the same?

Thanks
Dan
