E-mail processing s-l-o-w-l-y in Entourage 2004

Hello!

Our Mac group of about a dozen machines (OS 10.3.8) uses Entourage 2004
through an Exchange server to send and receive e-mail to internal and
external clients. The rest of our company (400+) uses PCs and Outlook
and thus the choice of Exchange for handling e-mail traffic.

Performance overall is tolerable for we Mac users except for one user
on a G5. E-mail goes straight to the users Outbox and then grinds
through at roughly 200kb (YES! Kilobytes!) per second. Our user
typically must leave their Mac up and running because the e-mail is
still leaving their Outbox when they leave for the day.

I've looked at the preferences and Send/receive settings, as well as
the Network settings on the Mac and they appear to match all the other
Mac users. This processing of e-mail is the only thing we notice that
is different/wrong from the other mac users.

What can be causing this? Our IT staff is looking at the problem, but I
thought I post it here to see if anyone else has encountered it. I
can't find anything related to this problem in the Support section for
Entourage 2004 at Mactopia.

Thanks in advance,

Brady

Followup:

Our IT staff thinks it's related to the client, since the Exchange
server sends the files the instant they are received. So the delay
appears to be originating from the G5. So I'll need to check settings
for Entourage and the Network.

Oh well...

Final update:

We reinstalled Entourage and cleared out the "Outbox." Everything's
back to normal...
