Editting a scanned object?

How do I edit a scanned object, like a job application, where I can just
print what I added to it without printing the whole thing.

When you scan a document, you are taking a "picture" of it. It's an
image. You can use image editing software to edit it, or you can use OCR
(Optical Character Rearder) software to convert the image to text, and
then edit. OCR software getting better but not perfect. Such software
may have been part of the software delivered with your scanner.

What would you recommend I try? I have a Lexmark all-in-one printer,
scanner, copier and Microsoft office 2003 student?

I don't know anything about that device. I recommend you look at the
user's guide (paper or maybe on the CD) for advice.

Also try the Microsoft Office Document Scanning Tool (don't know if this
just part of Office Pro or in all versions). It seems to have some OCR,
although I've never used it.

There should have been a basic OCR software package that came with the
scanner. Take a look at its installation CD.

WTF's "Optical Character Rearder" [/sic/]? OCR stands for 'Optical Character
/Recognition/'.
