Email disappears after being read

I'm running MS Outlook 2003 on Windows XP Professional. Email was worrking perfectly for 2-3 days and then the problem started. Un-opened email will always be visible, but once email is opened, it disappears, either the same day or sometimes not until the next day when I boot up again. If I respond to email, the responses are saved in the sent folder. I have found nothing in any other folders, including the deleted folder. I am not using any filters, and auto archieve is not activated. Can anyone help me with this problem? Thanks, Mike

Are you connecting to an Exchange server? If so, is cached mode enabled?
Are you 100% sure your view settings on the inbox are filtering *nothing* ?
