hello there,

I used to have my Outlook 2003 and I always have the email notification icon
show up for any single message received even if the message is moved to other
folder under rule. However, the notification icon is not showing anymore
except for those messages that stay in the default inbox. this is really
annoying. i do not want to see Email Alert or Windows Alert. any ideas?

Since Office 2003 SP1, I believe, the behavior is that you won't get an
alert for a moved mesage unless you include that alert in the rule actions.

Thanks for your reply. I dont remember exactly if I had SP1 installed, but I
do have windows update turned on. I assume the alert in your context include
notification envelope icon, and not just New Item Alert and Desktop Alert.
Well, those 2 alerts do not satisfy my need. I want to be able to know if
there is new email arrives but with minimum interruption and system tray icon
just do it the best. New Item Alert is just annoying and most of the time
interrupts me doing my work. Desktop Alert stays for a while then goes away,
and it pops up for every single message. I know we can 'hack' it in register
to stay longer, but then my screen is filled up with whole lot of alert
windows, at least 20, when the Outlook is unattended for some time.

I just dont understand why such a good feature is taken away, or was it just
a bug which turns out to be a good feature?

Beats me. I'm not privy to any Outlook design decisions.
