Emails Deleted in Entourage Not Deleted on Exchange Server

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

Using Entourage 2008 I can delete emails and have them go to the deleted mail folder. However, the email is not deleted on the exchange folder or on my treo that syncs with the exchange server.

I'm assuming there is a setting somewhere that allows entourage to delete from the exchange server. I could really use help.

Thanks.

Not really… though you should probably know couple of things. First,
the status sync is not immediate. You need to wait for some time (no
more than few minutes typically) before the changes sync back to the
server. Then, you might be setup to connect to a front-end server and
the changes might not be immediate there either.
When you move the e-mails to the trash in Entourage and check back in
the OWA page, are they in the proper location (within a few minutes)??

Thanks for the initial response. The issue is not a time lag on the sync, the issue is that Entourage does not send deletion information back to the exchange server at all. I can wait a full day, and an email I delete via Entourage still exists on the exchange server, in the OWA, and on my Treo that syncs via the server.

Any ideas of how I can trouble shoot Entourage not communicating back to Exchange Server regarding deleted emails?

If you see this in just one or a handful of folders in Entourage then
right-click or Control-click that folder, select Folder Properties and
click the Empty button to empty the cache. You can also select the
account itself and empty the cache for all of your folders.

I am having this exact problem. I tried right clicking the Inbox
folder and the Deleted folder as Bill suggested but it does not seem
to recognize right-click. This has been going on for about 2 weeks.
Very frustrating. I have tried "Sync now." I've tried Send and
Recieve multiple times. This does not happen on my other computer
where I also run entourage so I know there is something wrong here.

If you have an answer or comment for the original poster then please
respond within that thread. Otherwise, if you're looking for a solution
to your own problem -- no matter how similar to someone else's -- then
begin your own thread. Similar problems may not have the same solutions.

I'm not sure what you mean by "does not seem to recognize right-click"
but you can alternately Control-click to get the same contextual menu.

If this doesn't answer your question then begin a new thread with
details of your own problem, include your software versions and what
you've tried already to fix the problem.

Hope this helps!

Hi - I have the exact same problem as bgreenerg, the original poster. The suggested solution of deleting the cache, however deleted all local (entourage) information and replaces it with remote (exchange) information. All my changes, my entire account clean-up that I carried out will be lost. This is not the "solution" I am looking for. I believe the original question was, how to force status as represented in entourage back to the exchange server. Please let us know whether there is a way to do this.

Thanks!

Hello Brian and Adam,

Did either of you find a solution?
I am also looking for a solution to this issue.

Issue: Emails Deleted in Entourage Not Deleted on Exchange Server

OSX 10.4
Intel CPU's (Mac Pro tower)
Office for Mac 2008
local Exchange Server 2003 (not hosted or offsite)

Thanks,

Do you give it enough time to sychronize? Have you forced a synchronization?
(Control-click the folder list and choose Synchronize Now.)

I have had the same problem as the original poster. I have emptied the cache on my account multiple times over the past couple of days and have had the same result. Some emails will sync correctly into the trash, but when I empty the cache, I have to go through and re-delete a good deal of emails that have not transferred.

Enough time? I think so...In a few days or weeks there is no change. I will try Forcing Sync, but the issue is even if that works...why is it not functioning properly (working all the time)? Having the end user (even a Mac user) needing to do one more thing like Control-click this and select Force Sync or try deleting the cache is not realistic. As Greg Burgess has posted, even after all this...he still has to re-delete emails. Forcing Sync sounds like a Band-Aid that kinda works. My users had this issue with Office for Mac 2004 (Entourage) as well. I will be calling MS Product Support and see what they say. I'll report back later today or Monday.

I am having a similar -- perhaps the exact same -- problem as bgreenerg, with an additional quirk.

I can read my e-mails at home and delete them, and when I get to work (more than an hour later, plenty of sync time) they are still in my inbox flagged as unread.

I also have set a schedule to empty deleted items upon quit, but when I quit and restart Entourage the deleted items folder still contains all of the messages, sometimes going back several days. I can manually empty the folder using right-click (control-click)on the folder, but I shouldn't have to do that.

There is no difference between my Entourage Deleted Items and the same folder in OWA.

I've been browsing the forums and this problems seem to be there for all of us. The only way I can get the messages deleted is by using a PC and delete them again.....Quotas exploding all over...

Can anybody at Microsoft tell us if it is supposed to work at all

Regards

Just wan't to chime in - I'm seeing this problem also, and cannot understand why this happens. However I try to force sync, empty caches etc there is no way to delete an email from the server without doing it using Outlook under Windows.

I'm having the same issue with Entourage 2008, in OS X 10.4.11. Does anyone have any resolution in this?
