Embedding PDF in PPT

Natalie

I'm having issues with inserting a PDF object. Other people are not able to
see the file-they get an error message:
There was an error processing a page. A file error has occurred.

I'm trying to embed a PDF file so that when the user clicks on the icon,
Adobe Reader will open the file. The way I have been trying is:
1. Insert Object
2. Create from File and select PDF file
3. Select Display as icon
4. Under Action Settings, I don't have an "Edit" option under object
action-only "open".
I've had someone else insert the file and they were able to do it with
"Object Packager". When you go to Action Settings, there are 2 options
available under "Object Action"-Activate Contents and Edit Package.
I have several files to embed, so I would like to do this on my system. Is
there a reason why "edit" isn't available? Does it have to do with Reader
7????
Using PowerPoint 2003 and Adobe Reader 7.0
TIA,
Natalie

Hi Michael,
I've read that site, but for some reason I don't have "Edit" as an option
under Action Settings. My only option is "Open" and it doesn't work correctly
with "open". Any other ideas?

PDF as PDF inside PowerPoint

From the main menu bar, choose Insert, Object. The Insert Object dialog box
appears.
In the Insert Object dialog box, click "Create from file" .
Click Browse.
Choose the PDF you want to insert.
PowerPoint embeds the PDF and displays an Adobe Acrobat icon.
Rightclick the icon and choose Action Settings. The Action Settings dialog
box appears.
In the Action Settings dialog box, click "Object action" and choose "Edit".
Click OK.
A copy of the PDF is now embedded in your PPT file, meaning that you won't
have to worry about links breaking when you move the file to another computer
or send it to someone else.

Others that try to open the file get an error message:
There was an error processing a page. A file error has occurred.

What specifically doesn't work? If you see a brief flash that looks like it
might be Reader, then nothing else happens, you probably have Reader 7. There's
an update available that fixes this problem.

Is this an error from Reader or Acrobat or whatever app is opening the PDF on their
system, or is it specifically a PPT error message? Sounds like it might be the
former. In that case, what happens if they open the same PDF directly by double
clicking it?
