Entering in duration in hours

Hi,

I am using Project 2007 and I am attempting to enter specific start and
finish dates and times in the task information dialog box. For example,
I am trying to make create a task that begins on January 21, 2009 at
5:30 PM and ends on January 21, 2009 at 7:30 PM. However, after I enter
the information and click "ok" the times and dates inexplicably change.
Does anyone know what the problem here is?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The standard project calendar for project only has from 8-12 and 1-5PM as
working times. The times you are entering are outside of that working time so
they will change to time which is actually within the working time. If you
want to use a different calendar (perhaps the 24 hour calendar) for your
project you can do that by going to the Project Menu, selecting Project
Information and then choosing the calendar to use. You can also create your
own custom working time calendar by going to the tools menu and selecting
"change working time" then editing or creating a new calendar.

sbfilm,
If you are directly entering start and finish data for tasks, why bother
using Project? It would be a whole lot easier to use Excel.

Project is a scheduling application but in order for it do work
effectively and efficiently, users should only enter basic data (i.e.
task name, estimated duration, task linkages, and resources to actually
perform the task). Given that, Project will calculate the schedule. It
is then up to the user to review and adjust the basic data if the
resulting calculated schedule is not acceptable. It's called project
management.

Jack addressed your specific issue. I'm attempting to address what I
perceive as a generic issue. Many users get frustrated when they can't
"force" the schedule to what they want it to be or think it should be.
Project is a tool. Let it do what it's designed to do and it will be a
good tool. Force it to do what you want, and it will be a bad tool.
