Entourage Calendar and iPhone Active Sync

M

Mike

I'm seeing some very weird behavior with Entourage (Office 2008) and my new
iPhone.

I have the iPhone set up for ActiveSync with our Exchange 2007 server. Mail
syncs properly both ways, and contacts sync properly both ways. But
calendar on Entourage is problematic.

1. If I create a calendar entry in Entourage it shows up on the iPhone
(after a brief delay).
2. If I create a calendar entry on the iPhone, it won't show up in
Entourage. But the odd thing is, if I run Outlook on Windows XP, there's my
iPhone-created calendar event. So the event appears to be syncing to
Exchange, but for some reason is not getting from Exchange to Entourage.

Anyone seen anything like this? Better yet, anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike!

Proud owner of iPhone 1.0 with version 2.0 software here.

I'm not seeing the problem you're seeing so I suspect you may need to
clear your Exchange Calender cache in Entourage and let it sync again.

Right-click or Control-click the Exchange Calender in the folder list on
the left, select Folder Properties and click the Empty button to empty
the cache.

After your calendar is full synced experiment with creating a new event.

My Exchange Server is 2003. Unfortunately, iPhone only allows one
Exchange account so I can not verify no problems with Exchange Server 2007.

Hope this helps!

Hi all;

Good advice about the other stuff but my problem is close to it and yet
different.

I have the 3G iPhone and the first time I synced with Entourage 2004 it
worked like a charm; all my contacts loaded up with no problems. Calendar
has been excellent with iCal as well.

BUT, on trying to update the changes I made in Entourage contacts, nothing
is happening. It says it is syncing contacts on the iMac screen but no
updated contacts getting onto the iPhone. I have tried rebooting both the
iPhone, the iMac and even replugging into a different USB but no hope.

On Entourage Sync services, the top box is ticked, "Synchronize contacts
with Address Book". Should it be? What else am I missing?

If you launch Address Book.app, do you see any contacts there?

Is the account with the calendar your Default account (as opposed to an
Exchange account)?

I have a similar problem as the OP, but we don't use Exchange (it's a Yahoo
business mail account) for our Entourage input. As the OP experienced,
calendar items initiated in Entourage transfer to the iPhone, but not the
other way around. Calendar items initiated in iPhone DO get to iCal, but not
from iCal to Entourage.

any suggestions? Many thanks.

Entourage can only sync one calendar with iCal. The calendar it syncs and
what it will be called in iCal (Entourage I believe is default, and don't
think this can change), is viewable in Entourage Preferences, Sync Services,
Calendar:

You need to make sure when you are updating a calendar on the iPhone, that
it is going into the calendar named: "Entourage"

Thank you, thank you Matthew!

I deleted the "Home" and "Work" calendars on iCal, so the only one left was
Entourage. Then the sync works both ways. You are brilliant!

I checked with Address Book and it is up to date with the first time I
synced with the iPhone. Previously, it probably wasn't. But now, it is not
up to date either. In other words, it is at the same level of contact since
my first time I synced the iPhone.

I should also explain that prior to the syncing, I replaced the Microsoft
User Data folder with a newer one from my laptop. As everyone knows, you
can't sync two Entourage folders so I have to move the data folder from one
to the other to keep them both up to date. So, having made a number of
changes to my contacts on my laptop, I moved that to the iMac on my desk and
it replaced the old file as always. No problems; Entourage on my desktop
now reflects all the changes and is equal to the laptop version. Its just
that the new one doesn't get updated on the iPhone or in Address Book.

Should I redo the Microsoft User Data folder and replace it again?

On the account thing, if I understand you correctly, the calendars sit in my
normal (default?) user account on the iMac. I don't work on Exchange or
anything.

One more thing folks; I also rebuilt the database on Entourage just in case
it was a bad one. Still no joy.
