using entourage, when i try to receive messages from my hotmail account, it
gets as far a "updating message list" and gives the correct number (20) but
does not actually bring them into my inbox.

this problem has been going on since 9/17/09.

note, i did make the switch to according to
http://microsoft.windowslive.com/Key=36010.C6kS.M.GH.DGpVXc
which worked fine for several weeks.
also, i am able to send mail using entourage in my hotmail account.
and a different account works fine

Since this is a POP account, try deleting the account and recreating it
with the exact same settings. Take screenshots of your account settings
under Tools --> Accounts... --> <your Hotmail account>.

If that doesn't work then use Entourage menu --> Switch Identity... to
create a new identity and test the same settings there. If you continue
to have the same problem then this may be an issue with your account.
One last way to test this is to set up the account on a completely
different computer (maybe using Apple's Mail instead). If you have the
same problem then contact the Hotmail folks and ask them to investigate.

Hope this helps!

Sounds like a corrupt message is blocking your incoming emails. Log into
your account with your web browser. Move all messages out of the Inbox to a
temp folder. Move them back in small batches and try downloading into
Entourage. Most likely it's one of the older messages. Spam and messages
with large attachments are likely culprits.

ugghhh,

i created a new account in entourage (using my same hotmail address), and
it was able to download all the emails. i probably should clean out my
hotmail acct, but with all the storage they give, i haven't in long while,
so had thousands of emails to download. it took quite a whille, but seemed
to work fine.

then after i had everything, and waited a bit, i hit the receive button for
this new account and entourage began to download every singe email again. (
i had this occur in the last few weeks, now that i think about it, so had to
delete the duplicate set already, luckily can sort by time received by
computer).

..... also, bill you mention contact the "hotmail folks" who are they and
how would i do that.

thanks a bunch, .... aren't computers supposed to save you time?

Move them out of the Inbox on the server so you don't have to download them
again. You can delete the old ones if you have them in Entourage.

on the web browser i get one page of emails at a time in hotmail. so i have
to move one page at a time to another folder. i have well over a hundred
pages of emails in there.

is there a way to move ( or select ) mulitiple pages ( or everything ) in
the inbox at once ??? if not, is there a way to get more emails to show up
on a page ??

thanks,

Yes, you can set this in your account options. You should be able to set to
100 per page.

You might be able to use a filter/rule to move them all. If you could filter
all mail "older than 30 days", move to folder "archive".

Let us know if this works. I don't have a Hotmail account to test filtering
to move them out of the Inbox.
