Entourage & Hotmail sync problems

I am a premium user. I read my Hotmail messages on the Web and in Entourage. I have made all the necessary changes in my Entourage setting and I can receive my Hotmail emails.

Problem 1. The problem occurs in Entourage. All my Hotmail messages are received as "unread" even though they were opened and read in Hotmail. How can I get the read messages to come in as read?

Problem 2. Emails deleted in Entourage are not deleted in on the Web version of Hotmail.
Please note that I am not accessing Hotmail from Entourage in increments less than 20 minutes. I followed the directions for changing the Hotmail settings in Entourage. In other words, I did everything you asked me to do.

Please help. This new change has been a disaster for me. I am seriously thinking of dropping Hotmail. This improvement is anything but. I sincerely hope you can help me change my opinion of this new Hotmail.

Hi,

all your problems result from the fact that Hotmail is no longer accessible
through DAV, but through POP. A POP account does not synchronise data
between the e-mail application and the server; for example, if a message is
marked as read on your computer, that change will not be synched back to the
server, which means that the message in question will still appear as unread
when viewed in the webmail interface. The same applies to the opposite
scenario, in which a message is read via the webmail interface, and it still
shows up as unread in the e-mail application. There is nothing you can do
about problem 1; that's the way in which POP accounts work.

As for problem 2: go to Tools>Accounts, double-click the Hotmail account and
switch to the Options tab. Once there, enable the option that reads "Delete
messages from the server after they are deleted from this computer". See if
that makes any difference.

If the features you have mentioned are absolutely necessary for your
e-mailing habits, it would indeed be better for you to drop Hotmail and to
find an alternative that supports IMAP, since IMAP has all the features you
want (as a matter of fact, Hotmail and DAV offered an experience very
similar to IMAP accounts).
