.eps files in Publisher 2003

Don

I can't get Publisher 2003 to read .eps files. Files
that were created in Publisher 2000 and opened in
Publisher 2003 convert and open okay.

Don when you say 'read EPS files', will the files not import or just not
display?

If they will not display, then the EPS files do not have the TIF preview in
them.

The files do not display. My Question: If the files do
not have the TIF Preview, how come they display in
Publisher 2000? And when a file saved in Publisher 2000
is opened in Publisher 2003, the .EPS file is
displayed.

Don who knows, I avoid EPS and CMYK pictures like the plague. They are to
troublesome. I always convert them to PNG.

I think David is saying he converts eps images to png. It's a good
format. Bitmap, supports transparency, lossless.

Why .png? I've never heard of that format outside of Publisher so I probably
will never use it. Is there a reason I should? To be honest with you, I'm
not sure why *I* would need to save my Publisher files as a picture. I have,
and use, Acrobat so it's not really an issue. But I am willing to learn
something new. :)

Mike K is correct. EPS can cause to much grief at the wrong time.

JoAnn JPG is a garbage format only suitable for junk webpages and should be
banned in all other areas.
When I get JPG's if they need manipulating in any way, I uncompress them
completely then save them in PNG.
PNG and TIF is an extremely popular format among professionals and in the
industrial field.
You cannot afford to use lossy troublesome garbage like JPG

JoAnne that really surprises me because PNG is mega popular.

Do you have the Microsoft PhotoEditor or any other paint program, because
they will all save a JPG or other bitmapped image to a PNG

David,

I think there is a time and place to use eps files, at least maybe. See
another post I made. :)

Nothing wrong with jpg if one is going to save it one time without
compression and use it in a newspaper - trust me, I know these things.
JPG files are about half the size as png, but these days, size doesn't
seem to matter as much.

Mike K there is a place for EPS files, and I make them at times and send to
people that know what to do with them, but I don't believe there is a place
for use in Pub or PP. If you don't have a Postscript printer you are not
going to get a decent print, and they can and do cause grief in conversion
to PDF at times.

David,

I rarely if ever send out an eps, I would rather send a pdf or ps file.
However, I usually get one or two a year from advertisers. I've also
created a couple, usually because I need a clipping path. But they are
not my first choice of files to use.
