Equation Editor crashes

I'm using Office 2000 Premium in XP. The Editor ver is
3.0 - I couldn't insert/edit an Equation Editor object
within Word, everytime I do that it'll crash & pop up an
error message saying "There's an error with the feature"
& prompts me to repair the office. After I did that it'll
crash once more before it tells me it doesn't work &
returns back to Word (although I can continue with the
document & Windows without any apparent error).
I've tried updated to SR-1/SR-3, reinstalling the whole
Office ... nothing works.
Please help. Thanks.
