Error creating Web folder

Jazzy

I have had to change hosts and create a new Web folder; however, I cannot
add a Web folder for the address entered (which is the correct address).
When validating the location I get a message that in part states "cannot
connect to Web server. The server could not be located or may be too busy to
response." (I also tried this with another Web address and received the same
message.)

I have contacted the Web host company and have been informed that Front Page
extensions have been added and there is nothing else they can do at their
end. They claim that Publisher is really a desktop text tool and not for Web
pages, hence this is a "Microsoft problem."

I'm using Publisher 2000 in Windows98. Can you advice as to how I can add a
Web folder?

Also, after reading about all the other problems that I may encounter, am I
just better off switching to FrontPage 2000 (which I have but have not
installed)?

Thanks so much for your help.

That message is typically from not having FP extensions installed or from
not entering the correct URL.
refer to
http://www.davidbartosik.com/pub2k/pub2k_35.htm
to learn how to confirm you have the extensions installed.
this page also covers web folders.

Also contact them and verify the URL you are using as well. I've seen some
hosts use a different address for http (FP accounts) then they do for ftp.
A point I cover in my tutorial on uploading.

I recommend you look at this tutorial at www.davidbartosik.com/ppt.htm
It shows how to upload directly with Publisher, which I recommend.
The screen shots are in 2002 so your screens may look a little different but
the process is basically the same.

Pub is a desktop publishing tool (DTP) and not a web design tool.

MS Word supports creating web pages as well.

Only you can decide what tool suits your needs and your future plans.
