error message

when I try to open a word document I get an error
message "file *.doc not available. In .xl when trying to
open a file I only created this week and have opened it
and modified it a few days ago, I get the message "cannot
open this file".
what have I done???

Hi Robyn,

Are you also using Norton and recently install a service pack for Office?

If you did then the "Office Plug-in" option in Norton is known to cause the
inability to open previously created files. Go to Norton Options and in the
Miscellaneous section disable the "Office Plug-in".
