Excel 2008 not showing cell contents from excel 2004

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) I recently updated to excel 2008. When I use excel 2008 to open excel files that were originally made in excel 2004, the content of the cells doesn't show up. The content is showing in the formula bar but not in the cell itself. I can still see these files/cells if I use excel 2004 to open them but I can't print them from either version. This doesn't happen with all of the old files just some of them.

Be sure to install all of the Office updates that are available. Use
Help > Check for Updates.

Also install system updates from the Apple Menu > Software Update. These
updates work hand-in-hand.

Other suggestions for new software installations are to use Font Book to
resolve duplicate fonts and remove bad ones, and to use Disk Utility to
Repair Permissions on the startup volume.

One footnote to Jim's comprehensive reply: Check the mfr's site for an
updated printer driver. There's been a lot of scrambling going on to get
printers effectively integrated with Snow Leopard.

Thanks for the suggestions. We had done all the updates, but it turned out to be the fonts that were causing the problem. Got rid of the bad fonts, changed the font the the spreadsheet was in and everything works.
much relieved.
