Excel crashes on startup

Running MacOS X 10.2.8 and Office 10.1.5, my Excel is crashing on startup
when just doubleclicked (that means it doesn't crash when I drag a file on
it or open the file with doubleclick). Seems like Excel tries to load some
recovery file (generated after a crash) that is corrupted itself. Where to
search? Any other hints or ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Couple of possibilities:

First, look in your Microsoft Office X:Office:Startup:Excel folder -
anything besides perhaps a Personal macro workbook or a Workbook
template?

If you start XL with the shift key down, it will get rid of any
autosaved documents. Then Quit and restart.

You might also try trashing these files:

~:Library:preferences:com.microsoft.Excel.plist
~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Excel Settings (10)

where "~" is your home directory.
