Excel: Format a worksheet downloaded form Access

I have four columns with numeric values in it that was
downloaded from Access. I am trying to summerize them and
get totals of the numbers in a few of the columns but it
will not allow me to do that. What do I need to do to
get the totals and the formats that I am looking for?
Please help me.
