excel spreadsheets won't open

When I double-click a spreadsheet my Excel starts up but the spreadsheet
won't open, then I get an error message stating the file could not be found,
even though the path is correct and proper. is there something screwed up
with my MIME setting for xls files?

Please take a look at Knowledge Base article 207574 XL2000: Error Message

(http://support.microsoft.com/?id=207574). If this article does not address
the issue you are experiencing, please reply with the version of Excel you
are using and the exact message you receive.

Thanks Kevin for the response and I tried the solution the KB Article
offered that you pointed me to, however, no dice. I've attached the error
message I'm receiving. My Excel version is 2000 (9.0.6926 SP-3).
Any more ideas you have would be appreciated.

thx

Thanks for posting the error message. Take a look at the following articles.
I've listed them in the order that I believe will be most applicable:

211494 XL2000: Excel Opens Without Displaying Workbook
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=211494

296055 XL: "Cannot Find the File" Error Message
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=296055

323216 XL: Cannot Start Excel and Open a Workbook by Double-Clicking the
..xls
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=323216

Hopefully the steps detailed in one of the articles will resolve the
problem.
