Excel tries to open all files

I have run into an interesting problem. Recently, when I open Excel, it automatically tries to open all files in my folder including .doc, .dot, & .pdf. If I return through the unrecognized formats and then close without saving changes all the window, I can open the .xls I want. If I force quit, I have to go through the same thing when I try to reopen. 90% of my Excel files were created in 08. Any ideas?

Only one: Go into Excel> Preferences> General & clear whatever you have
entered in the "At startup, open all files in:" field.
