Field length problem

I'm trying to change the pathnames of links to external
tasks (as the path changed due to some other problems),
but the pathnames for external predecessorsexceed the
field length and a "..." appears at the end. I've tried to
export the field to Excel, but the "..." still appears.

I have also tried using the task information dialog box,
but I cannot change the path, as the predecessors field in
there are grey and not editable.

Is there any way I can change the length of the
predecessors field without using VBA as I'm not compentent
in using that.

Lone,
I tried answering this yesterday but I guess my response didn't send
properly. I'll assume the field length issue is due to multiple
predecessors exceeding the 256 character limit and not just a single
external path length that is too long.

Here is a trick that I have used successfully when the predecessor field
length was exceeded. Set up one or more dummy milestones and tie them to
the start of the task. Each of these milestones then provides another
full predecessor field thereby multiplying the effective predecessor
field length.

I use the Task Information Dialog box. Delete the bad link
and create a new link. To avoid typing in the full link
name, I copy/paste from another link on the Gantt Chart
view (Predecessors column) and change the line number.
