Fields need to be updated

Hi there,

i need to display an "+" or "-" in the bottom of each document page to
indicate whether there are following pages ("+") or not ("-" (last
page)). so, i easily used this field function:

{IF {PAGE} = {NUMPAGES} ,,-" ,,+" }

everything works so far when i hit the "update fields" button. but
when i save the document and reopen it, the field values are wrong, i
have to update them again.

i think this is due to the document initialization process. do you
have any ideas?

cheers

i found this:

"When you try to update the fields in the body of your Microsoft
Office Word 2003 document, only the first occurrence of the NUMPAGES
field is updated. If you try to update the fields in the document body
a second time, only the second occurrence of the NUMPAGES field is
updated. To update all the NUMPAGES fields that are contained in the
body of your document, you must press F9 for each NUMPAGES field that
appears in the body of your document."

and

"This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a
service pack. If you installed the latest Microsoft Office 2003
service pack, you do not have to install the hotfix."

but i use Word 2000 !?
