How do you open an old MS Works file with a *.wks file
extention in Microsoft Word 2002?

You don't. WKS is a Works spreadsheet file. You should be able to open it in
Excel and convert it to Excel format, provided you have installed the
appropriate import filter. Office 2002 may not install all its available
filters by default, and there are others available from the Microsoft Office
update facility.
