Files not alphabetical

R

Richard

When accessing Word files over the LAN, the files within
the folders are no longer alphabetized. It's not clear
what order they are in. How can I remedy this?

Open Windows Explorer, click "View", "Details", click the "Name" heading to
sort them the way you want. Click "Tools", "Folder Options", click the
"View" TAB and click the "Apply to all folders" button. Close Windows
Explorer and try again in Word.

You can do this in the Word File Open dialog as well, either from the View
menu in the dialog or by right-clicking an empty area of the window and
choosing View | Details, then sorting. Or you can right-click and choose
Arrange Icons By | Name.

You know I've tried that a couple of times before and it seems as though it
wants to arrange them "descending". Does selecting "By Name" twice toggle
back and forth? Never tried it. Guess I'll give it a shot and see.

That Bill guy, he thinks of everything! HA!

No, unfortunately you can't set Ascending or Descending using that menu item
(and yes, I've tried that, too). Mine usually seems to come out Ascending,
but perhaps it you already had them in descending order by date or other
field, then that setting would be retained?
