Files sizes

I am relatively new to web design and seem to have a
problem withg page load times. WHat is a good size for
graphics files in pixels and KB. Is there any reommended
sizes for web pages themselves? if so, what are the
recommendations. One site I designed is www.i1-der.com and
would welcome any ideas and recommendations on it.

Thanks

A total of 50,000 bytes for all HTML, CSS files, and
pictures is a worthy goal. At that speed, a visitor with a
56 kbps modem would require at most 10 seconds to receive
the page.

Your page at http://www.i1-der.com/ does seem a bit
graphic intensive. Try to keep graphics down to 10% or
less of your total display area. This generally means
getting more creative with text and background colors.

The menu graphics are cute but most designers would want
all the titles visible when the page first appears.
Otherwise, the visitor might never reveal the one choice
that piques an interest.

The page looks OK at with the browser window at 1024x768,
but it truncates at 800x600. Most designers aim for no
truncation at 800x600.

Finally, although this is a matter of taste, the color
scheme seem a bit garish.
