Does the MS Office called Findfast really use up the HD so much? I've heard
similar stories to this one:

A quick google and MS search, top results were for how to turn off/disable
findfast.
If you want a drive search add-in/utility try:

Findfast was discontinued after Office 2000 and
worked only on Windows 95, 98 and ME in that version.
MS Windows Indexing service is used in current versions.
