Fixed and variable cost in one resource

E

Erkan

Hi,
I have such problem. I'm planning for a project which is a off-town
assignment. the resources (man-thing :)) can stay in hotels even the
assigned task is one hour according to the aggreement. However the tasks are
hour-based tasks. I mean if the task is 2 hour (1500US$/day) and the hotel
fee is US$100/day the the daily charge to the client should be
1600US$(=1500US$/hour * 2hours + 100us$/day)
Of course the resource and task number is more than 1 :)
Could you give me any idea about how I can have msProject to make the
calculations?

Hi Erkan ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Firstly, you should be aware that Project is primarily a scheduling tool
and is in no way a cost accounting package. The features that allow costing
are mainly for use in giving a reasonable estimate of the budget required to
finish the project. Thus, the rates you can enter into the Resource
Information dialog should be for the total cost of ownership of the
resource and should allow for pension, training. holiday and sickness pay as
well as the salary. You should certainly not enter simple wage rates.

That being said, Project will calculate the cost of the resource based on
the man-hours worked. Consequential costs should be added as fixed costs
and, again, should be estimated in advance to calculate the total budget.
Fixed costs can be entered in the Cost table (View/Table/Cost).

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
