Folder View Gone

I have created a new subfolder and now whenever I copy a message into the folder my view is gone. I can "restore defaults" from the Properties, Home Page, Restore Defaults but as soon as I copy another message into the folder, the view is gone again. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

what exactly happens to the view? is it a custom view that defaults to
messages or something else?

It just goes away. The folder shows empty when you create it. Once you add an email to it, it displays the message - unable to display this folder

start outlook with the /cleanviews switch.
