Font Size Changes won't Save

I consistently have pages in PowerPoint that I modify the font size so the
text will fit on the page (my most recent one, was changing the font from 20
to 16), save and close the document. When I re-open the document, it's as if
the document doesn't know it was modified and the font size on that page is
back to 20.

Strangely, this wasn't a problem if I set the font size to 14 or smaller.

It's on my PC at work and my operating system is XP (sorry about that -- they
haven't been consistent about who gets what operating system until lately and
I had a brain-freeze on which system I have.) I can't change the operating
system and I can't change the software -- I'm stuck with what they let us
get. (And, generally, you don't get to upgrade your operating system until
you get a new PC -- I've another year to go before I get a new one.)

MS lists the system requirement as "Microsoft Windows® 2000 with Service Pack 3
(SP3), Windows XP, or later"

It won't install on Windows 2000 w/o the required service pack; I tried, it
refused. ;-) How'd you get it installed on NT?

Do you have access to a computer with Office running under one of the supported
operating system versions? If so, try opening the file there. If the problem
disappears, we've learned something.

No worries. I'm sure Steve was asking because we've seen an inordinate
amount of posts about this problem lately, and so if it's an issue with PPT
2003 being installed on a nonsupported operating system, that might give us
some clues.

Since you are indeed working with 2003 on a supported OS, I'm going to guess
that you're running into a known issue that doesn't seem to be fixed with
the Service Packs for Office 2003. Here's an explanation and possible
workaround.

http://groups.google.com/group/micr...ans+master+font&rnum=1&hl=en#5ff293b4047e0c8d

What I usually do is copy the placeholder and paste it on the slide, which
removes its "placeholderness" and turns it into a regular textbox that's not
tied to the master. Then I delete the original placeholder.

Alternatively, I create a slide master that has the text sized the way I
want it for that slide so I don't have to do any direct formatting on the
slide. I suspect this isn't as reliable as the copy/paste solution, though.

Another alternative is to use a blank slide layout (Format|Slide Layout and
choose "blank" -- the one with no placeholders) for the problem slides.
