Fonts question

J

Joy

Someone sends me a Publisher newsletter for our organization for me to
proofread. When I try to open it, I can't because apparently she uses two
fonts that I don't have, so Publisher substitutes Times New Roman (the fonts
are Optane and Angostura), then it will open. She doesn't seem to know
where they are in her newsletter (she said she just goes by the looks ? ? ).
Is there any way she can find where they are so that she can substitute
Times before she sends it to me? It said something about using TrueType
fonts being better. How can one tell which fonts are TrueType? Seems to me
they USED to have TT after the name of the font.

Why would you want to do that, if Publisher does it in the end anyway?

If you have her convert the file to PDF using a free converter such as
PrimoPDF from www.primopdf.com, all the fonts will be embedded automagically
and it won't matter that you don't have the font installed on your system.

Hadn't thought of that!

So she and I will be on "the same page", so to speak. I understand
different fonts can possibly change the layout.

JoAnn,

My second reply to you. I've not done this before (downloaded fonts) -
never needed to, because I have a HUGE amount of fonts that have come with
various greeting card and other programs. Is there a "safe" way to do it?
Is there a way to get just one font, not a whole lot of them? I just now
tried downloading angostura and there are 4 icons in its folder. I thought
I'd better not go farther without checking.

I've downloaded many, many fonts by themselves. Since I have almost 1000
fonts, I have a *bit* of experience at this. ;-)

I would say!

So can you tell me how to do it?

You just find the font you want on a site and click on download. Generally
they are zip files. Do you know about zip files?

Thank you VERY much, Don! I had googled for both of the fonts but didn't
run across this particular site; and had trouble finding one of the fonts
anyhow. This site looks wonderful!

Don, I went to that site and found the fonts I was looking for. According
to the directions on the site, I downloaded one of them (to Desktop). Then
tried dragging it to the Fonts folder, but nothing happened. Then I tried
to Copy and Paste it, but still nothing happened. Any suggestions?

I took another look at the font on the desktop (it wasn't a .zip), and found
a setting that said it was blocked, and I could click on Unblock. That
solved it!

Was it a .zip file or a .ttf file?

If you are still looking for those two fonts you can get them here:

http://www.webpagepublicity.com/free-fonts.html

Note there may be more than one file for the particular font, i.e.,
regular, italic, bold etc.

good luck
