Format Columns

Using the "Format Columns" option from within a folder I have added a new column which we need to identify the receipients of sent emails by ID number. So far, so easy but I can't find anywhere how to enter anything in to this new field. Currently we have each email with the ID number in a follow-up flag but this is not a perfect solution. We would also prefer not to have seperate folder for each receipient as it will quickly get very unweildy.

A field for a column must correspond with a field in the actual message. A
column just displays certain information from that message. Since created a
column that doesn't correspond with information in a message nothing is
being displayed.
