I have tried everything to rid my documents of all the formatting marks. If
I turn off the "P" button on the tool bar, I am unable to click and type at
all. Then in the print preview view, nothing appears! Please help...I am
going crazy!!

From the symtoms, sounds as if the text in the document ... all of it
.... has been formated as "hidden".

Try: when all text showing, Edit/Select All, then Menu: Format Font and
make sure hidden property is unchecked.

Thanks, that helped some, b/c I am able to click and type. But there are
still dots under all my text and in my spaces.

Well, I "dots" in Word doc files means "hidden". I can't see the dots
you see, but something still seems hidden.

You have to figure out what Word is trying to tell you by putting dots
under the text. select a few characters, and look carefully at menu:
format/font.

You also have to realise that there is a difference between formatting
marks on the text, vs. formatting marks. To manage formatting marks,
see menu: tools/options, view tab. to manage format int he text, see
the menu: format/font and format/paragraph, etc.
