We are using MS Project 2002 without SP1. When we format text in a tast
(bold, underline, color, etc.) it appears. However, when you save the
project and re-open it, the formatting is gone.

Dear Barbara,

Are you working with Project Server - if so the formats in a view as defined
in the Enterprise Global will take precedence over any formats in an
individual project. You can temporariliy alter the fonts etc in an open
project but when you close it and then open it in a new "session" using MS
Project the default formats in the Gantt Chart will be applied.

If you want to include conditional formatting and a host of other graphical
tweaks or enhancements make these changes to a view in the Enterprise
Global, preferably in a newly named and defined view to avoid the "View
Exists" message. Once the Enterprise Global is saved the new view will be
available to all users when they next connect.

I hope this makes sense, if you want more advice or hints and tips feel free
to contact me.

Dominic:
Yes, this makes perfect sense. We will try using a new view with the
formatting. Thanks so much.

Doninic,

My name is Janice Pantano and I work with Barbara Lindsey and I am trying to
put formats on a Gantt Chart. But as Barbara mentioned, I loose my formats
when I open the file. I am not sure how to change to Global to make this
work. I would like to have different color bars for groupings of tasks.
E.g., all of the Clinical Trail tasks would be blue, all of the Clin Pharm
tasks would be green etc.

The file that I am trying to do this on is a linked file in that all of the
tasks in this summary file are linked to tasks in a project file that holds
all of the detial.

Right now the customer uses Excel to maintain his colored chart of summary
tasks and I want to be able to do this with the summary file, so that the
customer no longer needs to maintain the Excel file.

Your help is appreciated.

Janice,

Barbara indicated that you are using Project Pro & Server - only individuals
with Administrative rights can change the Enterprise Global.

Check the Tools menu in Microsoft Project Professional, the last item should
be Enterprise Options and from this there is a command Open Enterprise
Global. If you are not authorised to edit the Enterprise Global you will
need to make your requests to an Adminstrator in your organisation.
