Formatting text - can't click buttons!

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) When I type in a text box and go to format it using the palate, it won't let me click the box to open up all my color options (for example). Also won't let me order or allign any boxes...It's almost like my mouse isn't working, but it's fine for other programs...

Also, it was fine before. The only thing I have done recently that I don't normally do is use WordArt, but I'm turned all those effects off and it still doesn't work...
