Forms with text boxes and checkboxes

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) So I'm working with forms that have both checkboxes and text boxes and I can't seem to get the form to be able to use both, checking the boxes, while being able to write in the text box. I can get either or, but not both. Does anyone know how to do it?

Sorry, but unless you provide a complete & detailed description of how
you've gone about what you've done there's little hope of anyone guessing
where you may have gone wrong. There's no reason why any of the controls
from the Forms toolbar should negate the operation of others.

Additionally, it's always good practice to specify your exact update levels
of Office & OS X in order to expedite helpful replies.

Sorry, this is a work computer that I don't know the OS of, but it's word 2008. When I created the checkboxes on the form it didn't allow me to click them. I pulled up the FORMS toolbar and clicked on the lock icon, it allowed me to check the checkboxes, but disabled the text boxes on the same form when I hit that lock icon. When I unclick the lock icon it allows me to type in the text box, but doesn't allow me to check the checkboxes.

No offense, but you really haven't provided any new information... You've
simply reworded your original message. However, I believe I can guess rather
accurately at what the problem is...

Specifically, you have drawn Text Box objects in the document, you have not
used Text Form Fields. When Protection is turned on it activates the
*fields* but renders any other content un-editable to prevent users from
changing things they aren't supposed to change. IOW, the net result of what
you have is not a form, it is a protected document that has some Check Box
Form Fields stuck in it.

Have a look at the information in following links for a better understanding
of what designing a Form involves. They're oriented towards the Windows
version of Word but the principles are the same. You should have no trouble
applying the instructions & concepts in Mac Word. It would probably be best
to follow them in the order I have them listed below:

http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/LinesInForms.htm

For what it sounds like you want to do, you'll also have to create Section
Breaks as mentioned in the first article. If not familiar with them look up
the Word Help topic: About sections and section breaks.

Also, rather than using the Lock icon on the Forms toolbar you'll need to
use Tools> Protect Document & choose the Forms option. Then click the
Sections button to specify which sections should not remain protected when
the Protection is activated. Once you've done that the Lock icon can be used
to turn the protection on/off if you need to make further revisions to the
Form. The document should also be saved as a Template (.dotx) rather than as
a regular document (.docx).

I have the same problem (MacOS 10.6, Word 2008 and 2011). I have compared with Word for Windows, and the crucial difference with textboxes is that you may place an editable field inside the textbox in Word 2007, but NOT in Word 2008/2011!

So, I was very happy to find the instructions below:
"Also, rather than using the Lock icon on the Forms toolbar you will need to
use Tools> Protect Document & choose the Forms option. Then click the
Sections button to specify which sections should not remain protected when
the Protection is activated. Once you have done that the Lock icon can be used
to turn the protection on/off if you need to make further revisions to the
Form. The document should also be saved as a Template (.dotx) rather than as
a regular document (.docx)."

HOWEVER, the option "Sections" is greyed out in Word 2008/2011! So, I have so far not been able to create a form which contains a box that users can type in.

Would be happy for any help!

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
