Front Page 2000 Password Questions

Scott Whittle

I want to add a subweb to my site that is password
protected. However, the site itself is not password
protected. From reading I have discovered that I can't
have a subweb that is password protected without the site
being password protected.
I know that if I built another site that I could link
them together. However, I am on a time limit and I was
wondering if there is any easier fix to this problem. Can
I change the original (Parent site)to become password
protected? I've seen sites where they have a password but
you can still surf potions of the site without a
password. How could I do that?
Thanks for your help.

A subweb can indeed be password protected without the parent site being
password protected. But, it depends on whether your host allows subwebs,
and how it is implemented depends on what O/S you are hosted on (which you
didn't tell us).

You can set up your parent site without pw protecting it
and still pw protect your subweb. The first place to
check is your server. It should allow you to set
permissions for you subwebs. The second place is to set
your hyperlink from your parent web to a register page.
Then if the person is registered it will give them
permission to enter the sub web.
