FTP Problem

I have always successfully made any necessary changes to my site using
Frontpage, but just lately I have been getting this message when trying to
update my site:
"Could not find a web server at 'uploads.webspace.freeserve.com' on port
21." I have checked all my settings and am now at hair tearing stage. Has
anyone any ideas? I have tried emailing my ISP, but just get a standard
reply
stating what their settings are.........Waht can I do about port 21 and how
do I find it???
Thanks.

Port 21 is the FTP port used by FrontPage and (almost) every other FTP
client and server, including Freeserve.
Have you tried using ftp://uploads.webspace.freeserve.com as the upload
address?
Can you open the site in a third party FTP client? - use Internet Explorer
and type ftp://uploads.webspace.freeserve.com into the address space if you
do not have an FTP program.

This may be "off the wall" but have you recently installed or changed
anysettings that affect your firewall settings or security settings? Some
software such as Norton Internet Security has features that can close ports.
Hope this helps,

Dan

Thanks, Dan. That was the one which helped. I temporarily disabled Norton
and my site is now uploading.

By any chance are you using XP SP2?

If so, go into IE >Tools >Internet Options >Advanced
Passive FTP sand change the setting. This may take care of
the issue.
