Gantt summary bar text

Hey guys, I currently have a project that is grouped on two levels, text3 and
text4, so it looks like this:

Text3 Entry1
Text4 Entry1
Task 1
Task 2
Text4 Entry2

and so on. Text 3 and 4 are basically outline headings, and I want this
information to display in the gantt chart. I go to gantt view > bar styles,
and find that both of them are categorized as "group by summary" bars. I say
that I want to display the name above the bars. It does what I want for the
lower outline level, but for the top outline (text3) nothing is displayed.
Is there a workaround for this, or a better way to do it?

JD,
First let's make sure our terminology is the same. You say your project
is grouped in two levels. I assume you mean that you used the grouping
function under Project/Group By/Custom group and then group by Text3
first and Text4 second. If you mean something else, please explain.

I also assume you are talking about grouping on the Gantt Chart view. If
not, what view are you using? I further assume you are not using the
Project Summary Task (it will not show up when using grouping).

When I set up a simple test file as described above, I see the task
name, (i.e. Text3 Entry1, Text4 Entry1 and Text4 Entry2), above each
group summary line on the Gantt display. In other words, it displays
what you want.

All those assumptions are all correct. But for me, the name doesn't show up
above like it should. I just did a test, and it works as well. It must be
something specific to the project I'm working with. Any ideas as to what it
could be?

JD,
What version of Project are you using?

Without actually seeing the offending project, I can't think of a reason
why the text is not showing up on the top group summary line. If your
test case seems to work I would compare all the bar styles in the
subject project and your test file.

I guess it is also possible there is some corruption in your subject
file. Go to our MVP website at, http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm,
and take a look at FAQ 43 - Handling project file corruption and bloat.
Try methods 1 and 2 and see if they help.
