Gantt View - Predecessors join part way through process

A

Hi All,

We have a process that works to a service level. It is possible that
the process branches and then rejoins depending on the work type.

Day1 Day5 Day 10
<---------------------Update A Only-------------------------------->

<--------------------Update B Then A----------------------------->

<------Update B Only------->

Jobs that need update A are allowed ten days and are done by resource
group A.
Jobs that require Update B only are allowed 5 Days and are done by
Resource group B
Jobs that require A and B are allowed 5 days for B and then rejoin
process A when they are finished. I would like to show this in a Gantt
view, and have the A and B jobs rejoin the same task as the A only, but
5 days into the duration.

is this possible? This way I can assign one set of resources to the
entire flow of update A.

thanks in advance

Hi,
You will have to make these indiividual task.
You cannot link to a point somewhere midway in the task.

Continuing with Jan's advice - a task is a specific physical activity that
results in a single unique deliverable. It seems very likely that what you
are calling a "task" may well be a summary task that consists of several
different discrete activities. Your scenario sounds like at least 3 tasks,
not 2. The first part of Task A and Task B sound ok but what you are
thinking of as the continuation of A after the point B might rejoin it is
likely a separate Task C.
