Generating pdf from word with embedded visio drawings

Y

Yiannis

I have created several drawings in Visio (2003) and I have embedded them in
Word (2002). Then I try converting the word document into pdf (using Adobe
Acrobat Prof 7.0), but the result is a disaster:
The lines, boxes etc. in the visio drawing are converted correctly, but all
the texts are enlarged wildly or are moved around.
Strange thing is that if I convert the visio drawing to pdf directly from
visio interface, then everything works fine. The problem only happens when a
visio drawing is embedded into a word file.

Anyone has any clue? I will really appreciate any feedback.

I think what is occurring is that the Word styles are being superimposed on
the embedded Visio object during export. Try embedding your Visio object
into the Word document as a Metafile (Paste Special > Picture (Windows
Metafile)) , then export to PDF. I think that will render the compound
document better for you.

What if you save the vsd file as a jpg, then insert the jpg into word, then
convert the word file to pdf.

Barb,

I wrote an extesinve book using Word with so many pictures from Visio and I
am having the same problem with the texts objetcs in these pictures. I am in
a hurry to generate the PDF version of the book in order to print it. So, I
don't have time to manually replace all Visio objects to other picture
formats. Could you help me, indicating any kind of Word configuration or
other to fix this to all Visio pictures in the document at once?

Please, copy your answer to (e-mail address removed).

Thank you very much.

Marcos,

I'm sorry, but the OLE embedding information that is stored with the
embedded object is not switchable after the fact. When you copy something
to the clipboard, many formats may be present, which you then choose from
when pasting, or pasting with special option, into the target document. So
there may be a BMP, an EMF, a Visio drawing, etc. that you can choose
from. However, once you perform the paste step, only the selected object
type information is stored in your document. The only way to get a new
selection type is to perform the copy/paste actions again.
