Generic Resource and Booking Type

B

Barbara B.

I want to view only committed projects in the Resource Usage View in Project,
but I am getting both committed and proposed.

Background:
We are setting up generic resources to represent the resources in a
department.
Each resource has a percentage that represents number of people (ie: 8
people= 800%). We then set up four projects. Project 1, 2, and 3 are
committed. Project 4 is proposed. (I set up an Enterprise Code for the
proposed project and marked the Booking type as proposed as well).

I would like to use Projects 1, 2, and 3, as a baseline, then see the effect
of adding Project 4 on the Resource Usage View in Project. (I've got
Portfolio Analyzer and Portfolio Modeler working)

What happens with Project Pro 2003 is that each resource lists all four
projects in the total work for that resource. I can't find a way to filter
just committed. (I tried using "group", but I don't want the resource's
group, I want the project's group).

So my question is how do you view only committed projects? Is it possible
with generic resources?

Thanks,

Barbara

Create a filter as follows:

Booking Type Equals Committed

Apply this filter in the Resource Usage view. Hope this helps.

Thank you. Sometimes the simplest answers aren't always the obvious. That
worked fine.

Dale,

I got the proposed projects filtered out of the view, but their "work" still
gets calculated in the total amount for the resource. Any ideas how to get
that total to reflect only those tasks shown?

Thanks.

I have a solution for you that involves using both a custom Filter and a
custom Group. Create the custom Group as follows:

1. Name the group something like "_Name and Booking"
2. Select the "Group assignments, not resources" option (this is the key
step)
3. Select Name as the Group By field
4. Select Booking Type as the Then By field
5. Change the Field Type option to Assignment for the Booking Type field
6. Click OK and then click Close

Apply your custom filter to show only Committed bookings, then apply your
new custom Group to display only the Committed tasks for each resource.
Hope this helps.
