Generic Resource Availability and Reporting Resource Usage Data

Darrell

If I want to report on the resource usage of select group across all
projects, I can use the Resource Availability in PWA and view the “Assignment
Work by Project†for that group. This shows me the aggregate work performed,
or to be performed, remaining availability and the capacity of the group for
the selected time period. However, what if some of my schedules still contain
generic resources for part of the time period I am interested in reporting on
i.e. through the remainder of this year.

Should I set all Generic Resource’s availability “Units†to “0%†so that
they do not add “capacity†to the organization and will still show work to be
performed? As long as I am not worried about the groups availability being
reduced is this a viable approach for showing the work performed or to be
performed?

Hi Andy,

generally that is possible, but you will need to have your Project Server
and MOSS installtion on one isntance. Then you can use the Project Server Web
Parts within your MOSS environment.
Hope this helps

Hello Darrell,

Unfortunately, it seems that Marc answered the wrong post.
I would also really like to see an answer to Darrell's question.
To my understanding, setting your generic resource's availability to 0%
would provide exact data to forecast your need and availability for a
specific profil.
I see one drawback: Performing leveling in a project plan with generic
resource with 0% Units will not work.
Hoping the experts will provide feedback on this interesting question.
