"ghost" writing in Word and Outlook

While in Word and Outlook, we get text showing up on the
screen as though someone else is typing. IF we take
ourselves off our home network so we can't use outlook, the
problem still appears in word. We've run a virus detection
and get nothing. We have a firewall in place and it
doesn't seem to help. It has made using the computer a
problem. We can't type when this is occuring.

Is it meaningful text you get, or just random characters?

If it's meaningful text, it's a virus or voice recognition software.

If it's just characters, I'd suspect faulty hardware or conceivably -- if
you use a cordless keyboard -- electrical interference.

Do you have the Office speech recognition active? Try turning off the
microphone.
Is this a laptop? Keep your hands away from the touch pad.

Voice recognition software. Possibly your computer microphone is close to
your telephone? If you don't use it, uninstall it. If you use it, make sure
to turn it off when you are not using it.
