"Global Template Already Open as an add-in program" Message

Hi,

I've recently made customizations in Word, saving not to 'normal.dot' but
to a new document template name.
Now whenever I open Word, I get a message "Global Template (normal.dot) is
already open as an add-in program".
What does this mean?
How do I stop this from happening every time I open Word?
Why did it happen in the first place?

What I've done:
I've already moved all templates from startup folder to a different
location. This didn't help.
Deleted normal from template list. Word created a new one next time I
opened Word. When I close Word and re-open, it uses that normal.dot again
and I get the same message.
Tools, Options, Add-ins, de-selected all template names. This didn't help.
Help?!

Says that that can happen if Startup & User Templates are set to the same
location. Since you've empties Startup, I assume that that's not what's
happening.

The only other thing that occurs to me would be if the Data key in the
registry were corrupted so that Word *thinks* those locations are identical,
even if they aren't. Look here and note the section about the registry, and
see if this solution solves the problem:

This can also happen, I think, if you have a shortcut to normal.dot or a
copy of normal.dot in your Startup Folder.

The Startup folder should be outside the user templates folder.

For more on the different kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog,
and locations of templates folders see
