global template problem

I have just installed office 2003 and kept my old office 97 as i need both
versions.

I have set the startup in word 2003 to looat the startup of my old office 97
as there is a globally loading template containing sub procedures and menus
which i need to have access to in each version.

I need to acces 1 version of this as it is constantly being updated and i
dont want to create work by having 2 versions. I have delated all other
copies but when I load word 2003 it replicates the menus twice.

Can anyone help with this problem I know office 2003 puts shortcuts etc all
over but I think i have got rid of them all but maybe not.

There is a difference between a startup folder and the location for
normal.dot. It sounds as if, for Word 2003, you have normal.dot in the
startup folder. You do not want this. If it is normal.dot you are talking
about, you should simply point the user templates folder to the same
location for both versions of Word. Note, I am not advising using the same
normal.dot for two versions of Word on the same computer. I don't know
whether or not this would cause problems. I keep my customizations in
separate global templates, which I do share across Word versions.

See http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step
instructions on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations
including AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros,
etc.
