got mail icon when not in outlook

how to show got mail when not in outlook and working in an
other program. is there an option to pick for this please
reply soon thank you

What version of Outlook? I'll assume Outlook 2002.

In Tools | Options | E-Mail Options, there should be a check box to show a
new message notification dialog. Also, in Advanced options, there should be
an option to show an icon in the system tray.
