Graph error

Hello,
with Excel 2000, I have a table which comprises many columns of data. When
I don’t selected all the columns, the generation of a graph functions without
problem. However, if I plot graphs with a lot of selected columns, at stage
2/4 of the graphic assistant, the field "range of data" posts Chinese
characters instead of the awaited sources.
Here I that I obtain in the field range of data:
"ç楳瑳湡â´ç‰‡ç¡æ¥¨ç•±â¥â€ç“‰ç¡â¥â€²ç•³â²â€´â€æ½„湮早â³æ½³ç‰µæ•£æ âµç‰§ç¡æ¥¨ç•±elexe to be posted."
I tested with several types of different graphs: the problem is the same
one: from a certain number of selected columns, the graph cannot be
generated any more (but no error message clarifies doesn’t indicate it). In
the same way, I made this test on 3 machines different, on Windows 2000 and
XP. Apparently, It’s not a problem of installation, of configuration nor of
machine.
So I cannot trace any more graph and I am obliged to return my range of data
manually (what makes me lose much time).
Would have a remedy for my problem? Is this a bug known?

thank you for your assistance
