Graphics do not display

P

Philip K.

Hi Everybody,
A. I have Front Page 2002 SP3.
B. I have WINDOWS XP with SP2 and Internet Explorer V9.0.2900.
I have a large number of HTM files which I downloaded from the COREL
graphics site over the years. Recently, I have found that when I open most
of these files, the images do not display. They do not display in Internet
Explorer, Front Page 2002, or Word XP. Yet at one time the images did
indeed display along with the text. The original sub-folders with the same
name still are in the same parent folder as the HTM file.
Strangely enough, right clicking on the blank image and then clicking on
properties, correctly identifies the image -- usually a JPEG or GIF.
However, the only display within the file is a blank box with a red X.
A few HTM files do open properly -- i.e. the images are displayed when
the file is opened. Most do not. I can open the images in the sub-folder
separately with a graphics program like Adobe PhotoShop.
1. What could have happened?
2. Is there a way to trouble shoot this problem?
3. Is there a way to tell the file to display the image along with the text?
Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Open one of the images that do not display in PhotoShop, then check if the JPG subformat is RGB, if
not then that is why it does display on the web.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the information. I guess I have to check out the graphics
files to see if they have become corrupted in some way so that they can not
be opened in Front Page or Internet Explorer.

When you right click one of the image place holders and select properties, what is the
image file path??
Is it correct??

You see the image name in properties because it is being read from the html source <img
src tag

Hi Everybody,
Thanks for your comments.
I have discovered the problem. AOL compresses downloaded images into
its own ".ART" format. It is a super secret graphics format so no one else
can convert it to another format. Worse yet, they do not change the
extension just to confuse everyone.
Believe it or not -- this is the default setting in AOL !!!
